The UFC Hall of Famer and one of the greatest fighters of all time has since confirmed his retirement after the knockout loss to Lyoto Machida. Lyoto Machida earned himself the KO of the night award and has got himself back into the title mix.

Shogun vs Machida
Former UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Mauricio ‘Shogun Rua’ has declared that he would ‘bet on’ Machida to defeat the new UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones.
“He has every chance to beat Jones,” Rua told Sherdog. “His counter-attack style is very strong and tough to beat.
“I think his style could match perfectly with Jones” style. I’d bet on him if I had to.”

It looks like Lyoto Machida is mixing up his training and has gone to train at American Kickboxing Academy with the likes of Mike Swick, Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch and Cain Velasquez. AKA is also home to well known trainers “Crazy” Bob Cook and also home of Dave Camarillo’s Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu. It looks like Lyoto will be mixing up his training for his upcoming bout with Rampage Jackson at UFC 123. We are also awaiting the rumoured announcement of Shinzo Machida getting back into the fight game and earning a shot in the UFC lightweight division.
UFC 123: Rampage vs Machida in Detroit has had it’s official poster released. The card looks to have some cracking fights lined up including main event Rampage/Machida and also the Trilogy of BJ Penn & Matt Hughes at Welterweight – a fight revealed by MMAFriedRice.com earlier in the week.

As suggested by MMAFriedRice on Twitter on September 10 2010, the fight between Matt Hughes and BJ Penn looks to go ahead at UFC 123 headlined by UFC Light Heavyweight standouts Lyoto Machida and Rampage Jackson. This will be their third meeting and with score currently 1 victory each with the most recent going to Matt Hughes via tko at UFC 63.
With Penn looking two rebound from back to back losses to current UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar, this will be Penn’s first return to the Welterweight Division since his failed attempt at re capturing the Welterweight Belt at UFC 94 against GSP. A victory for either fighter could propel them into the Welterweight Title mix. A loss for BJ could drastically affect Penn’s chance of going down as a future Hall of Famer and cause him to rethink his career. Hughes on the other hand is riding a 3 fight win streak with wins coming over Serra, Renzo Grazie and Ricardo Almeida.
Other notable fighters scheduled for the card include Joe Lauzon vs George Sotiropoulos, Nik Lentz vs Tyson Griffin and the return of Kario Parisyan vs Dennis Hallman who holds two submission victories over Matt Hughes.
